High School Summer Program Teacher - English and Ethnic Studies (Summary Only)

The MG Summer Program is an enriching 5-week summer program designed to inspire, educate, and empower students through a dynamic blend of College and Career, Ethnic Studies, English, and Art classes. In addition to classroom learning, our program offers recreational activities and field trips to enhance the summer experience for youth. Our program provides a supportive and stimulating academic and personal development environment for SFUSD students looking for an engaging experience while having fun and making new friends. The summer program will start on June 12th and end on July 19th. There will be no programming on June 19th, July 4th, and July 5th.

 

The High School Summer Program Teacher is a short-term position for 5-weeks from June to July focusing on English and Ethnic Studies. This position allows experienced or relatively new youth development professionals to sharpen their skills or gain hands-on experience in lesson planning, leading workshops, and working with SFUSD students. The Summer Program Teacher can help build cultural and educational bridges by engaging students in interactive learning experiences for the summer. Each Summer Program Teacher will have MG staff support in the classroom and will collaborate with MG staff when planning lessons.

Key Responsibilities & Primary Duties

• Create a 5-week curriculum and lead an English or Ethnic Studies class.
• Uphold all policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management practiced by the school site and SFUSD.
• Develop a nurturing, safe, respectful, multicultural learning environment.
• Support students learning to be better prepared for the beginning of the school year.
• Lead small groups discussions to build cultural and educational bridges among students.
• Coordinate ongoing communication and feedback systems with students and MG staff.
• Assist in the daily summer program operations including supervising youth, administrative tasks, and staff development as needed.
• Maintain accurate youth files and records, i.e. attendance, student behavior, and other evaluation forms to track student progress.
• Participate in staff development, team, and supervision meetings
• Plan and coordinate Summer field trips.
• Serve as part of the larger Mission Graduates team.
• Dress professionally for working with high school youth.
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of experience working with diverse youth in community and public school settings and demonstrating an understanding of cultural diversity.
• Bilingual Spanish/English fluency is preferred.
• Demonstrates knowledge and experience with the best practices in youth development program planning, curriculum development, and teaching methods.
• Passion and understanding for working with youth is a must, as well as a willingness to explore and develop alternative, non-institutional teaching methods.
• Candidates must be flexible, well-organized, and able to take initiative.
• Valid TB test clearance and DOJ clearance are mandatory before hire.

$24 - $28 an hour

Salary Grade: $24-28 based on experience and qualifications
