PDM draws on nearly 50 years of experience in the HVAC industry from our origins in Europe!

Our copper mill operation facility operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year while our production side of the operation operates 24 hours (three shifts) Monday - Friday.

Position Overview

The Machine Operator will be responsible for daily operation, set up / changeover and maintenance of casting equipment. This is a hands-on position requiring knowledge of process control systems combined with a mindset to produce a quality product.

The goal is to ensure that production processes continue to deliver products of maximum quality in a profitable, safe manner with no downtime.

Schedule:

Monday - Friday

3 pm - 11 pm (Will train 7am - 3pm)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs basic maintenance on the machines; support refractory replacements and repairs.
  • Sets up machinery and casting molds; start and end the process.
  • Controls melt level and melt coverage; slagging of the furnace as required.
  • Replenish consumables and raw material.
  • Ensures correct layering and fill levels.
  • Performs leak testing on casting molds.
  • Completes scheduled checks for spotting malfunctions and unsafe conditions, reports and corrections.
  • Tightly monitor process parameters, especially cooling water, gas flow and temperatures; adjusting as needed; calls for help if uncertain.
  • Responds to emergency situations, making decisions quickly and efficiently; time is of the essence.
  • Effectively and immediately communicate problems, safety issues and quality deficiencies.
  • Responsible for task related Quality Control (i.e., required measurements / material samples); recognizes potential quality problems and responds by identifying root cause, taking fast effective corrective action; attention to detail is crucial.
  • Maintains proper records.
  • Aids co-workers where and when needed.
  • Communicates opportunities for improvement, whether safety, process, or equipment related.
  • Communicates with internal team clearly any feedback or issues and important information to maintain machinery performance, ensuring quality output, enhancing product yield and machinery efficiency; provides technical assistance in problem solving on assigned platforms.
  • Replenish consumables, raw materials, worn or broken tools, machine parts, and other necessary equipment to ensure uninterrupted production and proper equipment condition.
  • Maintains an exemplary safe, clean, and organized environment by proper housekeeping and care of machinery and work areas.
  • Adheres to strict EHS guidelines, PPE regulations and company standards.
  • Based upon business needs, an individual may be reassigned to another position either temporarily or permanently, at any time, with or without notice performing other duties as necessary or assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Exceptional attention to detail and follow-through to maintain a high level of quality in a safe manner.
  • Must be mechanically inclined with ability to logically troubleshoot manufacturing machinery and above average problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills to maintain good working relationships.
  • High regard for quality assurance.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment as well self-motivated with a results-driven approach to also work independently with minimal supervision, and ability to do highly accurate work that requires good judgment in recognizing scope of responsibilities.

  • Ability to perform math calculations and understanding of basic computer skills.
  • Good understanding of LEAN tools; use power tools to change parts and settings on machines.
  • Ability to use basic and power tools to change parts and settings on machines.
  • Understands how to use and read a ruler, tape measure and calipers.
  • Ability to understand and exercise emergency procedures.
  • Regular and punctual attendance required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree in a technical or relevant field preferred, otherwise equal level of training or experience.
  • A minimum of three years of manufacturing work preferred.
  • Ability to be available to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift when operationally necessary.
  • Excellent physical fitness with the ability to lift objects weighing between 50 pounds.
  • This candidate cannot be sensitive to strong magnetic and electric fields (i.e., pacemaker)

Training Requirements

  • Forklift Certification preferred; will train.
  • Emergency / Contingency Training within 6 months of hire; annual refresher training thereafter
  • OSHA 10 Training within 3 months of hire; every 5 years thereafter

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is equally moderate to loud.

Work involves lifting material and products up to 80 lbs. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and gloves. Loose-fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted. This position requires full awareness of surroundings.

Language Skills

Must be able to communicate in English language Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
