Biostatistician

The Center for Childhood Obesity Research (CCOR) in the College of Health and Human Development at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a Biostatistician at the University Park campus. The overall mission of the Center for Childhood Obesity Research (CCOR) is to conduct interdisciplinary research that contributes to the evidence base needed to inform successful childhood obesity prevention programs that can then be disseminated to public health and clinical practice audiences. This position will contribute to several ongoing research studies.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform statistical analyses in SAS, including writing SAS programs for treatment randomization, data summaries and data analysis
  • Provide statistical expertise in interpretation of results
  • Consult and advise researchers on study design, statistical analysis strategies, reliability, data collection procedures, determining statistical power and sample size, and designing randomization schemes
  • Collaborate with investigators, postdocs, and students to design and implement statistical analysis plans
  • Collaborate on grant proposals, manuscripts, reports, presentations, and other scientific deliverables
  • Develop & oversee data management across multiple ongoing research projects
  • Supervise records and statistical reports and communicate statistical results (via presentations, written reports, and visual display strategies)
  • Prepare and send data to other researchers in support of collaborative/cooperative projects to achieve the goals of CCOR
  • Oversee the design, development, and coordination of study forms, instruments, measurement write-ups, equipment and protocols
  • Assist with mentoring postdoctoral scholars, graduate students and undergraduate research assistants for successful development, execution, and completion of projects
  • Develop and implement quality improvement practices and process
  • Read and interpret findings, address gaps, and draw conclusions


Education and Experience Requirements

This position will be filled as an advanced professional or senior professional depending on the final applicants qualification and experience.

Requires a Bachelor's Degree, plus 3 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for an advanced professional. Additional education and experience required for higher level positions. Preference will be given to those with degrees in a biostatistics-related field (statistics, biostatistics, public health, psychology, human development, data science, or related discipline).

Candidates must demonstrate proficient and comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices and procedures related to this position. Key skills include advanced statistical skills, proficiency with statistical software, excellent communications skills (both written and oral), effective decision making to manage multiple competing priorities and perspectives, meticulous attention to detail, a high level of self-direction, motivation and personal accountability, and an ability to identify and solve problems independently.

Desired Qualifications

Proficiency with SAS statistical software and experience with behavioral, longitudinal and/or family-based research are preferred.

Other Information:

This is a limited-term staff appointment, funded for one year from the date of hire with the possibility of renewal over five years.
