Job Summary

This position exists to support the University Writing Center (UWC) on all operational tasks in the day-to-day administration of the UWC (serving students) and the Writing Across the Curriculum Program (WAC) (serving faculty and staff).

Authority and Accountability

This position reports to the Director of the University Writing Center (Dr. Melissa Bugdal). This position has supervisory responsibilities for UWC student receptionists (anywhere from 2-6 employees per year). The position advertises, recruits, and interviews for student receptionists when vacancies exist or additional staffing is required, sets schedules for all student receptionists (in addition to all tutor and UWC programming scheduling), and engages in ongoing training, mentoring, and teaching of student receptionists during their time working with the UWC. This position is also responsible for all budget input for the UWC account, the WAC account, and the UWC Foundation account. As such, this position maintains and monitors all aspects of operational budgets for the UWC and WAC program.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

For this position, a Bachelors degree is required with at least one year of experience providing administrative or student support. The employee must also be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (specifically running analytics and tracking budgets in Microsoft Excel), as well as previous knowledge of or willingness to learn qualitative and quantitative data software (i.e., SPSS) and tutoring/scheduling software (WCOnline). 

The required knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position are as follows:
  • General knowledge of writing center pedagogies and prior knowledge of or willingness to learn writing across the curriculum pedagogies.
  • Strong organization abilities to manage daily schedules across multiple programmatic offerings (tutoring, writing fellows, workshops, etc.) for up to 35 people at a time.
  • Clear communication with the UWC Director, Associate Director, and UWC staff (undergraduate and graduate student tutors, professional tutors, and student reception staff).
  • Clear communication with campus stakeholders about UWC and WAC activities and metrics.
  • Ability to closely monitor and input budgets for UWC, WAC, and UWC Foundation accounts (across related SU software/programs).
  • Willingness to obtain/maintain IRB researcher training (CITI training for social science researchers).
Preferred Qualifications

For this position, preferred qualifications include a Masters degree in a writing-focused area such as English, writing and rhetoric, communication, etc., and 3+ years of writing center tutoring experience.
