Job Overview

The Director will report to the Executive Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship to continue to scale the pipeline of regionally connected teams and startups in UC's Venture Lab startup accelerator at the 1819 Innovation Hub. Increase connectivity with campus through both strong awareness of program offerings and simple/rapid onboarding of teams. Strengthen the experience and impact of teams during their engagement with the UC Venture Lab pre-accelerator program.

Essential Functions
  • Oversee the program's state ESP/TVSF grant distribution process with regional partners to maintain quarterly compliance requirements and track venture team metrics and progress.
  • Cultivate, manage and grow the program's extensive EIR/mentor network to expand the number and quality of volunteer EIR/mentors engaged with the program.
  • Assist and mentor teams through pitches and ongoing coaching as these early-stage business concepts work towards launching their companies.
  • Create and deliver entrepreneurial content to center related programs including the Venture Lab pre-accelerator, Lab2Market and other center programs.
  • Maintain a high level of client satisfaction with the Venture Lab's constituent groups of faculty, staff, undergraduates, and alumni.
  • Build relationships across campus with information sessions, outreach programs, and college-specific activation strategy, to create strong pipelines and partnerships that will produce potential startup teams.
  • Collaborate with regional ecosystem leaders to connect Venture Lab teams to additional entrepreneurial resources and programs; represent the center and Venture Lab program at ecosystem events.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree

Required Experience

Seven (7) years of relevant work experience, including four (4) years of experience in product development and/or work with venture-funded startups.

Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Master's Degree
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in product development
  • Experience working at a startup
  • Strong experience or knowledge in technology
  • Working knowledge of venture funding
  • Experience with SBIR/STTR grants
