DIRECTOR, SCHOOL OF ACCOUNTANCY

Trulaske College of Business, University of Missouri

TheUniversity of Missouri(MU) School of Accountancy in theTrulaske College of Businessseeks an experienced and accomplished academic to serve as Director. Successful candidates will possess strong leadership skills to further build the reputation of the School of Accountancy through student success and research productivity and maintain our record of strong enrollments. We welcome applications from high-profile academics with an established record of success in research, teaching, and service. Reporting directly to the Dean of the Trulaske College of Business, the Director, an endowed position, will collaborate closely with faculty to further existing strengths and expand upon existing collaborations by active engagement with School of Accountancy external constituents, colleagues amongst other departments within the Trulaske College of Business, MU, and the UM System.

Responsibilities:

· Reputation Building

o Create and support a high-quality academic culture that stresses engagement, innovation, and collegiality in research, teaching, and service.

o Support high-quality research and publishing.

o Support high-quality teaching with an emphasis on student success.

o Work closely with the department's doctoral coordinator and research-active faculty to improve doctoral student recruiting, publishing, and placement.

o Enhance professional development opportunities for students, faculty, and staff through appropriate programming and thought-leadership events.

o Enhance the creation/growth and delivery of programs with strong potential for net new revenue generation.

· External Relations

o Engage with alumni, advisory board, and other external constituents to leverage their expertise and to raise one-time and ongoing financial support of the School, College, and University.

o Establish and maintain strong relationships with public accounting firms and the private sector, with a focus toward successful job placement for graduating accounting students.

o Provide thought leadership and share insights through engagement with diverse groups including faculty, students, alumni, industry professionals, and other external stakeholders.

· Leadership

o Develop a shared vision and strategy for the School by actively engaging with diverse faculty, staff, and College leadership to understand and proactively react to the evolution of accounting.

o Serve as an approachable leader and role model who values different perspectives, fosters consensus building, and inspires, encourages, and mentors colleagues and students.

o Professionally advocate for the School to achieve the highest possible level of excellence in research and scholarship.

o Advance key strategic initiatives by administering and providing leadership for the School's academic programs, activities, faculty, and staff.

o Serve as a member of the College's executive leadership team to advance the College's goals and vision identified by the Dean.

· Administration

o Manage departmental staff and ongoing operations, including course scheduling, fiscal operations/budget management, the development of new courses and programs within the department, and responding to the needs of students.

o Maintain AACSB accreditation.

o Develop/implement recommendations for hiring, tenure, promotion, and evaluation of staff and both full-time and part-time faculty.

o Apply salary merit processes based on faculty performance in teaching, research, and service.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Doctorate in Accountancy, or an applicable field

· Academic accomplishments that merit an appointment at the rank of an Associate Professor or Full Professor

· Ability and interest to engage with potential donors and other external constituents to leverage and encourage financial support for the School, the College, and MU, such as through experience with fund-raising.

· Committed to innovation and interested in advancing an environment of interdisciplinary teams.

· Strong communication and excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with partners within the College of Business, other Schools and Colleges on campus, and the UM System.

· An understanding and commitment to the mission of an AAU Research 1 University, MU's institutional values, and the land-grant mission.

· Prior administrative or leadership experience.

About the School of Accountancy at MU:

The MU School of Accountancy continues to experience stable enrollments during these challenging times. It offers several degree program options: an integrated 150-hour accountancy program (which simultaneously confers undergraduate and master's degrees upon completion of 150 hours), an online and in-person master's degree, and a doctoral degree. In the most recent (2019)Public Accounting Reportrankings, the School was ranked in the Top 15 nationally for Undergraduate and Graduate (Master's) programs and Top 20 for Doctoral programs. When scaled by faculty size, the School was ranked in the Top 5nationally for both Undergraduate and Master's programs. The 2023Big 4 Accounting Firmsrankings of best accounting schools in the nation ranked the School in the top 20. As reported in Accounting Today (February 2021), the School of Accountancy was ranked #2 in the nation out of 521 accounting programs (and #1 among the 251 largest accounting programs) on theCPA Exam Success Index.

Our programs are supported by strong relationships with alumni and the accounting profession, including accounting firms, companies, and academic/professional associations. The School of Accountancy was also one of nine schools selected nationally to participate in the KPMG Master of Accounting with Data & Analytics (MADA) program in its launch in 2018 through 2021, now continuing into the support of data analytics coursework.

The School of Accountancy currently has 20 full-time faculty, 13 of whom are research active tenured or tenure-track faculty. The faculty enjoy a collegial and collaborative research environment with an active research workshop series and strong research support. Reflecting the collaborative and supportive research environment, the School of Accountancy has been highly ranked in past years on scholarly productivity byAcademic Analytics. In addition, all faculty are dedicated educators who contribute to the success of our students. Teaching is greatly valued and our full-time, non-tenure track, teaching faculty are valuable members of the School of Accountancy team. Our students are budding professionals whose hard work consistently place them in the top 10 in CPA exam pass rates.

About the Robert J. Trulaske Sr. College of Business:

The Trulaske College of Business, founded in 1914, today enrolls more than 5,000 students. The college has four academic units – Accountancy, Finance, Management, and Marketing. The college offers an undergraduate degree in business administration; master's degrees in Accountancy, Business, Business Administration, and Finance; and PhDs in Accountancy, Finance, Marketing, and Management. The college takes great pride in its graduates. More than 32,000 alumni are contributing their expertise to the public and private sectors in every state in the U.S. and in a host of foreign countries.

The University anticipates this appointment starting in fall of 2024 and will be placed at the rank of either Associate Professor or Full Professor and will be an endowed position.
