Job Description

The Division of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Pharmacy seeks candidates for a full-time Research Assistant or Research Associate position for the Zha Lab.For more than 130 years, the UMKC School of Pharmacy has continued its mission to educate, innovate, discover, engage and serve to improve health.

The Zha lab investigates neuronal signaling in the brain, focusing on neuronal injury, brain ischemia, blood-brain barrier, and vascular cognitive impairment. The current research emphasis is on the contribution from acid-sensitive GPCRs (specifically GPR68 in neurons and GPR4 in cerebral endothelium.)

The Research Assistant/Research Associate will work on a research team that focuses on understanding neuronal signaling, cerebrovascular function, and neuronal injury in culture and mouse models. Primary duties include assisting with daily laboratory experiments involving techniques on biochemistry, molecular biology, cell culture, and histology.

Additional duties will include:
  • Maintaining mouse colonies
  • Maintaining laboratory equipment
  • Ordering supplies
  • Assist with data management
An ideal candidate would have knowledge of basic molecular techniques, including DNA, RNA and protein western blot, polymerase chain reaction and the ability to independently prepare or supervise preparation of samples for analysis or testing after laboratory training.

Qualifications

Research Assistant requires a Bachelors Degree in biology or related science field

Research Associate requires specialized skills in a related scientific area and a Ph.D.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior research experience in molecular, cell biology, histology, or neuroscience research is desirable.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary is commensurate with position, experience, education, and internal equity
