Lab Mechanic/Technician Physics & Astronomy
The Department of Physics & Astronomy at the Virginia Military Institute invites applications for a full-time lab mechanic/technician beginning in the Fall '19 semester. The department has newly renovated facilities that include state-of-the-art classrooms, instructional labs, and faculty research labs. Major research equipment includes several laser systems, thin-film fabrication and characterization equipment, and a small particle accelerator.
Duties: Core responsibilities include setup and maintenance of equipment for introductory physics labs and lecture demonstrations, instructional computer and software maintenance, machining of custom parts for courses and faculty research projects, and providing technical support for faculty research labs commensurate with the successful applicants training and experience.
Minimum Qualifications: A good technical background, machine shop experience, and good organizational and communication skills. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
